Each area has a unique collection of foods that are considered unique and the best meals of that type offered in the region. Greek has their types of foods which are generally termed as Mediterranean foods to brag about. Their set of foods are highly nutritious and are a combination of foods of various colors. Here are the traits of Authentic Greek Cuisine that make it unique worldwide.

Greek is known as the first country in which olive farming on a large scale was started. This means that olive plants are an important plant culturally to the Greeks. The olives and their oils are thus a product often used in making their unique exquisite dishes. For example the oil is used to coat crusty breads while the fruit can be eaten whole as a dessert.

Greece is a country almost completely in between a sea. Their access to the sea thus means that some part of their diet consists of fish products. Some of their culinary dishes thus include fish. Some of the fish are rare types that make up for exquisite foods. Common types of fish used in making unique menus include anchovies, halibut, mullet, octopus, squid and prawns as a a few.

In farming department, Greece mainly concentrates on grain farming. The grains are used to make up most of the dishes in the Greeks menus. They are used to make breads, a common meal in the area and are also used as stew accompaniments and added to soups and salads. Rice is also a commonly used grain that is often in the Greece food menus. .

The warm climate of the area offers suitable environmental conditions to support the growth of various vegetables and seasoning as well as herbal plants. The diet in the area generally considers color and flavors thus the availability of conducive environment supports the growth of the diverse flavored ingredients.

In Greece animal products are not considered as a common meal. The meats are only consumed during special occasions and not as frequent. Milk on the other hand is regularly consumed but only after it is converted into cheese. If the milk is allowed to remain in its condition, the warm climates of the region tend to spoil it fast. The main type of domestic animal kept by Greece people are sheep.

In the drinks and beverages department, Greece is widely known for its wide assortment of wines that is used in both cooking and consumption. Often the wines are consumed on a daily basis in their cuisines. Deserts on the other hand in the region, comprises of fruits and pastries which are often mixed with honey to make special desserts.

Cuisines in Greece are mainly based on creating meals that are highly nutritious, colorful and consists of natural ingredients. This is the reason as to why foods in Greece are considered as very healthy. The foods rarely use animal fats and animal products used is very minimal. The foods in Greece are thus an interesting combination of natural ingredients that are prepared well to create different delicacies.
