Utilizing Wine For Better Cooking

By Michael Robert Peterson

Wine is, without question, one of the more interesting products which can be parlayed into the culinary arts. Any sommelier can direct your attention to the numerous types of wine, which can almost make them come across as limitless. Those who are new to this field may wonder how wine can be used for specific cooking purposes. To say that they are unique would be an understatement, as these possible uses will be able to show you.

One of the simpler ways to implement wine, as a cooking implement, is through marinades. For those who do not know, marinades serve a couple of purposes: to add a bit of flavor to dishes and to keep certain meats tender as well. Seeing as how wine is more of an acidic product, as opposed to anything else, it's easy to imagine how it can be used in the creation of marinades. Keep in mind, though, that this is just one potential solution to consider.

Bakers should also think about utilizing wine more often. The main reason for this is that it's great for pastries, amongst them being cakes. When wine is used, for the sake of baking, these treats can come out airier and the fact that different flavors may be added cannot be overlooked. For those who consider themselves bakers, there's no denying the fact that wine is a type of ingredient that holds an even greater bevy of advantages.

Wine may also help your favorite culinary methods stand out. Let's looking at stewing, for example, which contains beef and vegetables in a vast majority of cases. When chefs incorporate a small amount of wine to the dishes, you'll start to see that the ingredients in question will be more tender, flavorful, or a combination of the two. To say the least, wine has its advantages and this is true for chefs with their own cooking style preferences as well.

Keep in mind that these are just a few ways to incorporate wine into your cooking endeavors. It's a unique ingredient, in and of itself, and it's clear that it can play into different functions. Some of them may be related to the creation of dressing, while others may be used for the actual cooking process itself. Do not feel like wine is a product you should leave out. As you'll start to learn, it'll be one of the most helpful ingredients for long-term culinary pursuits.
