Grape And Citrus Tampa Wines

By Krystal Branch

Wine grapes were first planted in the state of Florida in the sixteenth century. Although wine making has deep roots there, due to their tropical climate, until the nineteenth century, there was no mass production of Tampa wines. In the thirties, a new hybrid was developed, suited for this type of climate, and it was the real beginning of more serious wine production.

Nevertheless, there is no enough grapes for some more serious vine production, and most wineries import their grapes from California, or even Canada. On the other hand, Florida has more than enough fruits, all year round. That's why most wineries here produce delicious citrus vines, and sometimes combine them with some of the most popular wines. Even so, some wineries focus on traditional products based on grapes only.

Florida Orange Groves winery, for example, produces only citrus vines, while Rosa Fiorelly winery focuses on grapes mainly. Most of them still produce both fruit based vines and very interesting combinations with grapes. Most of them also offer a free tasting as well.

To be able to produce their delicious wine combinations, most wineries import their grapes from Canada and California, and then use them for making traditional Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and White Zinfandel, or for making their specialties. Some grow their own grapes as well, and you will be able to find very nice vines here.

Florida fruit vines might surprise you. One of the most popular fruit vines is a blueberry vine. You will find sweet, dry and semi-dry ones, and all are full of specific flavor and aroma you will soon learn to appreciate. There is also one very light and seductive product, just ideal for hot summer days. This delicious, delicate vine is made from strawberries and Riesling grapes. Chilled and gold colored vine is a perfect companion to your seasonal salad, mixed fruits or sweets.

Fruity and light combination of Pinot Noir and raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries is one of the best red vines in Florida. Produced by Keel and Curley winery, this one goes just great with spicy foods. Unlike other red vines, it is best served chilled, and tastes especially nice with Asian food and similar dishes.

Tangerine and Zinfandel combined make a great match. This surprising combination of bitter and sweet flavors is quite popular here. Another successful match is Souvignon Blanc in combination with lime. Especially refreshing and invigorating taste is also highly popular. This vine got numerous prizes, thanks to its quality.

Blackberries are especially healthy fruits, strong, aromatic, full of anti oxidants and valuable minerals and vitamins. The vine made from these berries is widely recognized and appreciated. All valuable ingredients are perfectly preserved there, and it is important that this vine ages for many months to become so intensive. The taste is strong and intensive, and it takes some time to get used to it, but it will improve your blood characteristics.

Fruit made, grape only or combined, all Tampa wines are best served chilled. Some go great with meat dishes, some are better with light vegetable meals, but you will enjoy sipping any of them in some warm summer evening. They are mostly light and very refreshing, with exciting fruity aromas and interesting tastes.
