Ghost Pepper Wing Sauce Is Not For The Faint Hearted

By Maryanne Goff

If you are one of the people who enjoy spicy foods, there is now ghost pepper wing sauce to liven up your taste buds. Not only wings will benefit, but other dishes too. Yet it is slightly baffling as to why more people haven't heard about these chili peppers.

You would be correct in assuming that, as the name implies, it has something to do with a ghost pepper. At one point, not so very long ago, this was regarded as the hottest naturally produced chili pepper. As demand has grown it has been grown in more places, but it has its origins in North Eastern India.

From these regions it goes under a variety of names. One deciding factor on the name seems to be whether they are grown to the North or South of the Brahmaputra river. If they hale from the North the common name is Bhut Jolokia, whereas the Southern name is Naga Jolokia. Each dialect includes the name Jolokia, but this means that it is a member of the Capsicum chili pepper family. The Northern word Bhut can be translated as ghost.

The Southern version, the Naga Jolokia, pays homage to the Naga warrior tribe. These fighters were legendary for their ferocity in battle. Many feel that this is a fitting link to this chili with its fiery traits.

Many people often wonder about how the heat of a pepper is recorded against other varieties. So that they are all measured against a constant scale the Scoville scale was adopted. This was developed in its basic form in the early 20th century by a man called Wilbur Scoville. In those early days it largely involved a panel of judges who taste tested chili extracts, mainly the capsaicin, suspended in sugar water solutions. Although not an ideal method of measurement it did give fairly uniform results.

Salt is just one commonly used flavour enhancer used in kitchens throughout the world. Another commonly used ingredient is the chili, which might surprise some individuals. However next time you are in your grocery store, take a look at the display of different salsa dressings, they will all contain chilies. Now consider how often these salsas are used on a daily basis. Even foreign recipes will often include chilies as part of their ingredients.

It has been put forward that these fiery chilies also contain potential health benefits. It all seems to revolve around this capsaicin, or the heating element. There have been some startling discoveries made during these clinical trials, that could possibly hold some agreement to these claims.

So at the same time as spicing up your meal, you could also be gaining untold health benefits. Some people will also claim that their taste buds and sense of smell have already been given a workout by the unique taste and smell of these chilies. There can't be many better endorsements aimed at those individuals who prefer their meals to be a bit livelier than the average person can tolerate.

With ghost pepper wing sauce, your wings will be a taste sensation each and every time. A recommendation is to keep this versatile sauce somewhere convenient in your kitchen. Even the blandest of meals can become a mouth watering feast just by using this condiment.
