By Lora Jones

Legal paternity testing is a test that is conducted to determine who is the childs biological father. There are times when the identity of the father may not be clear because of the circumstances and this can create a lot of issues. With an accurate test, you can finally have confirmation.

The test is accurate because it is based on dna. DNA consists of genetic material, which is unique for every individual. By getting samples of dna and looking for similar markers, one can determine if the male in question is indeed the childs father. The process is thought to produce highly reliable results.

To do the test, one would need to obtain a kit. Once samples have been obtained, you can send it to the lab which will then process the samples. The kit is not expensive. Aside from paying for the kit, there are fees that have to be paid for the processing. Take the time to check what the rates are at several facilities.

There are differences in the way this tests are being conducted. It will depend on whether the test is for informational purposes only or if it has to be utilized in a case. If it is the latter, then certain procedures will have to be followed to prevent tampering in the samples or in the results.

If you want the test to be admissible in court, then the cost will be higher. Settling for a home test however does not mean that you the accuracy of the test is going to be affected. The lab will still be following the same process for testing those samples.

There are many circumstances that can induce the need for an official test. An adoption for example may have to get this confirmation. If you stand to inherit some properties and there is still some doubt about who your father is, then the test may be required.

If the test results have to stand in court, then there should be someone authorized to witness the sampling. The individuals who are tested have to show proof of their identity. The samples will be monitored closely to ensure that it reaches the facility with no tampering. Processing will then begin and the results will be released thereafter.

Tests can either be conducted at your own home or you can go to a facility to get tested. There is a waiting period before you can get those results and the length of this period may differ among facilities. You have to consider the location of the individuals especially if they are not in the same area. You will also have to schedule when the samples will be taken.

Legal paternity testing is a way of verifying who is the biological father. Dna samples will be taken from the parties involved. The results are highly accurate. When one needs to use this information in court, a strict procedure is in place to ensure no tampering. This will be more costly compared to tests that do not need to be admissible in courts.
